Frequently Asked Questions
What poker rooms are supported by
"AutoRead"?
Over 100! Click
here for the full list!
I am already
a customer, but have lost my license information. How can I get
it back?
You can always get a copy of your license key using the upgrade
form in the lower left corner of this page.
Is this
cheating? Is Texas Calculatem™ disallowed by any poker room?
It is not cheating. Texas Calculatem™ only passively watches
your game, calculating odds and advice. It does not play for you,
and therefore does not violate the rules or policies of any online
poker room.
This tool will give you odds. It does not use
any information you don't already have. It does not read anyone
else's cards, and does not share information with your opponents.
It only makes calculated guesses.
Why is AutoRead
not working?
In some poker rooms, certain options need to be set to default in
order for autoread to work:
PokerRoom.com; Hollywood Poker; Betsson Poker,
Pacific Poker: You must use the Windows download version of the
poker client, not the Java version.
Ladbrokes & all Prima/Microgaming poker rooms:
Must have "Separate Windows per game" checked under "General
Options"
Clubs and
diamonds are being misread as other suits. Why?
4 color decks are now supported everywhere. Please download
the latest version
My registration
key does not work. What can I do?
Make sure you are entering the name and serial exactly as shown
(including your middle initial when applicable). The easiest thing
to do is copy and paste the name and serial directly from the email
into the program.
Will Texas
Calculatem™ work at play money tables?
Although it will certainly give you accurate odds on your own hand,
the advice it gives you will most likely be skewed. This is because
Texas Calculatem™ assumes your opponents know how to play,
and are not playing recklessly. In a game where no one has anything
to lose, people play recklessly.
How are
the odds calculated?
Many people think that Texas Calculatem™ calculates the odds
by randomly dealing the outcome many times, and averaging out the
results (Monte Carlo method). While this is partially true, it is
not nearly enough in the game of poker.
A player who has stayed in while others have folded
no longer can be considered to have any old random hand. Texas Calculatem™
uses a proprietary predictive algorithm to give weight to your opponents'
hands, and determines the probability that you will have the best
hand at the River using that algorithm.
Advice is given based on this probability, and
adjusted according to your position in relation to the dealer button.
Over time you will find the predictions are extremely
accurate. For example, given a situation where Texas CalculatemT
tells you that you have a 75% chance of winning the hand, you will
find that you will take about 3 out of every 4 of those pots.
NOTE: All pre-flop odds are pre-calculated and
hard-coded into the program. Many starting hands will vary in strength
depending on the number of people at the table.
What Are
"Total Outs"?
"Outs" are cards that will improve your hand without similarly
improving the board. For reference only, Texas Calculatem™
will tell you what your "simple" outs are - meaning the
number of cards that will improve your hand at all - not necessarily
cards you are sure to win the hand with. Rest assured Texas Calculatem™
does not use these outs to determine your odds of winning - that
is calculated much more intelligently, taking everything into account.
It is recommended that you use the outs as an interesting reference,
but rely on the "odds to win" number for making decisions.
Note, too, that the outs are indicated with colored
dots in the "Deck" window, with each color corresponding
to the colors in the "River" odds chart, making it easy
to quickly see straight and flush draws, etc.
What does
"Watch Fold Depth" mean?
"Watch Fold Depth" tells Texas Calculatem™ to take
into consideration not only who is folded, but at what point in
the hand they folded. This allows TC to make better guesses as to
what the folded players may have held (and what they weren't holding),
based on what the community cards were at the time they folded.
Subsequently, it can make better guesses as to what your opponents
who are still in are holding. The trade-off is that the processing
takes longer. If you have a fast PC, you probably won't notice it
at all.
How is
Texas Calculatem™ different from other calculators?
A:Unlike other calculators, this calculator won't just tell you
what your hand will be, it compares your likely hand to your opponents'
likely hands, giving you your odds of winning the hand, not just
what you will personally hold. This is important, for example, if
you have a 85% chance of making your straight, but there are 4 hearts
on the table! This program will tell you when to hold and fold based
on everyone's position, not just yours alone.
It is essential to know when you might need to
lay down those pocket aces, no matter how hard it might be!
Should
I always follow Texas Calculatem's™ advice?
A:This program is a calculator. It is meant to give you the odds
on the current situation. However, as any seasoned poker player
will tell you, there is more to the game. A good example is bluffing.
Although Texas Calculatem™ is not going to tell you WHEN to
bluff, it can very much help you determine if someone else is bluffing.
Also, mixing up your game is important. If you
always play straight, people will figure that out, and simply fold
whenever you raise. In other words, don't always do what Texas Calculatem™
says to do. This is the reason for the advice slider bar. Example:
If Texas Calculatem™ tells you to fold, but you can see your
hand is very close to being a playable hand on the slider bar, you
may want to consider playing every once in a while. |
